Hello everyone! I hope that all is well on your side. I’m deeply grateful to God to share with you a new composition named “Rahab”.
Rahab was a prostitute. She was an outcast in the society of her time, however God had other plans for her. Rahab’s life completely shifted. (And yours can too). That story happened way before Jesus Christ, in difficult times of wars. As the context is war, please make sure to read the disclaimer at the end of the text so that none believe that I glorify it.
Shortly after Moses’s death, Israel was about to conquer a city called « Jericho ». Few spies arrived in the city and stayed in Rahab’s place. Rahab decided to hide them and confessed that she started to believe in God in her heart. She wasn’t a believer at all in her past as she grew as a pagan. She only asked the spies to spare her alongside her family in the moment of the conquest. And the Hebrews did. The spies asked Rahab to hang a red thread from her window, so that the Jews would recognize her home and protect her. What happened next in her life is unique.
She left prostitution and married a man called Salmon. And she had a family. In that very lineage of her family came … Jesus Christ. Rahab the prostitute became an ancestor of Jesus.
Disclaimer : As said, in no way here do I promote war. The context is key to understand the fall of Jericho. Because of their intense corruption, God allowed the Jews to conquer the city. The same God, years later, allowed the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Greeks, the Romans to conquer and destroy Israel because of their own corruption.
HOW DOES THIS CONCERN YOU?
How does this concern you? God is not afraid of your past and your present. You might feel shameful or disgusted by it but don’t let it define you and block you on the way to Christ and Salvation. God loves you, wants to save you, and establish a real relationship with you. God is interested in you, wants to change your entire life today, as He did with Rahab. You have no idea what God can do with you as He did with her. Little did she know that she would be preached all over the world, that her name would be in The Bible, and furthermore that she would become an ancestor of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Simply because she believed and hid the spies.
Did you notice the red thread? It was a symbol, a shadow announcing Christ’s blood, shed for us. When Jesus came on earth, He came by love for you, to save you and to have you with Him forever. Instead of punishing you and me for our sins and mistakes, God incarnated Himself through Jesus Christ and punished Himself. God paid the price Himself.
When Jesus died at The Cross, through torture and humiliation, He absorbed all of your sins, mistakes and destroyed them in His Body. When Jesus died, your sins died in His Body too. His Blood shed is what saves you.
If you believe in your heart that Jesus paid the price of your sins and mistakes you will be saved. If you believe that God rose Jesus from the dead you will be saved. Now your relationship with God is established and you’ll start a new life. As Rahab turned her back to prostitution, you too will turn your back to your past. Now, you need to ask God to receive His Spirit, called « The Holy Spirit ». His Spirit will completely transform you and testify that all of this is true! I would encourage you to start to pray — meaning talking to God — as often as possible, and to read the Scriptures. You can start with Matthew, Mark, Luke of John.
